it is a boring, boring life.

8 hours in an air-conditioned room.
where is the sunlight?

Tokyo is truly an inspirational place.
the clothes that they sell, the books that they publish, the shop and poster design .etc

we spent very little time in the CBD areas and more in the suburbs.
the suburb shopping area is like Haji Lane except it is much bigger.
they have really nice and unique houses.

have yet to transfer photos from my camera but here are some of the best parts that i took with my phone:

went to Akasaka to watch The Kooks on the first day.
it ended with "Naive" and i think i died a little inside.

visiting inspirational and creative shops as well as secondhand clothes shops.
Garter acts as a shop and art gallery.
it has 3 shops in this shophouse in which one is hidden behind a secret door.

spending hours in Village Vanguard, Tokyu Hands and Loft.
josh's favourite places where he stocks up his masks.
(he bought 15 masks)

bookshops!
they have very, very, very nice books that i can't seem to find anywhere else.
but they're all in Japanese.
oh well.

josh bought a used but good guitar for SGD67
and spent the last night in a cafe called And People.

and i bought Lobby the Lobster after debating for 3 days.

funny how time passes so fast and funny how time works.
funny how people from the other end of the world are a few hours behind us.
does that mean that they are generally younger than us?
if i were to fly over, does that count as time-traveling?
who created time?
do we need "time"?
if we were to live without knowing the hours and the minutes and the seconds, and just live as though life is infinite, would we be happier?
if time, the length of it, never crossed our minds and we don't have thoughts like "we only have a day left".
if time is as unknown as a color that we can't see.
but time is there because things change.

funny how some things are inseparable.

he is only going to be your partner if he opened the door for you and you remembered him because of his nice gesture and cute smile but neither did anything and you guys met again at a party a month later and both of you are at the dance floor and he accidentally elbowed you while dancing awkwardly and both of you turned around and said, "It's you!" and then the DJ played a song that both of you love and that's how you met him.
if you were to defy life(?) and went ahead to know all the strangers that made even the smallest impact in your life, things might change.
but... if you were to "defy life", that could be "life"'s doing.
"life" might want you to defy it and want you to want to know every stranger you meet.
that might be the way you meet your partner/best friend/life saver.

funny that some people used to be in your life.
childhood friends and primary school friends and people who you had a crush on and people who had a crush on you.
they're all part of your memory and it's so weird.
everyone there is part of your life and then they just disappear.

wow it's January.
so weird.. it was December yesterday and now we've jumped back to the start.
January smells like... sunlight.
Like a wild child.
and December is a cranky old lady.

December, December, December.
cranky yet festive.
such a joyous month but only because of Christmas.
now that it's January, i feel as though happiness is robbed away.
no more cold days and daydreaming of a fireplace, snow and a nice Christmas dinner.
but January is good.
January means new things.

2011 was, well, messy.
the start of the year had us working like mad for our Final Year Project.
the outcome wasn't what i first wanted and i was late for submission.
then we graduated and had our graduation show at Vivo City.
following the show were months of bumming around, debating about jobs and universities.
i settled for Flok even though what Flok does was different from what I have been doing. i learnt a lot about digital/social media advertising.
then i've made a few decisions after many "should i", "what if", "but then".
2011 kick-started my project and made me realize(in a good way) how much there are to do and how little i know.

so that brings me to 2012 where i feel like a runaway.
lost yet free, scared but excited to learn and discover.
i'm eager to experience new things and i'm looking forward to not knowing what may come.

Second to the right, and straight on till morning

'Twas the night, tenth of december,
a long way to the custom, that i remember.
Walking across 7 long travelators,
while the others had their own Segway vehicles.

To my right, it was a sight,
people were sleeping under the light.
a sorry plight, they've got a flight, in the middle of the night.
Though some had it easier,
a foot massage with a meter.
Luckily it's free in this case,
for a machine with Andy Lau's face.

We reached the custom then set to find,
a place to sit and rest our hind.
To our horrors the place was fully packed,
with Chinese who were talking crap.
With them shouting like they own the world,
we sat down with an Indian girl.
More like an auntie I would say,
she was slacking off work to watch her drama/play.
Of course off her IPhone's screen,
whatya think? A live Bollywood queen?
So back to what I was saying,
the Chinese were making a fucking scene.

One started to comb her super long hair,
she can compete with Rapunzel I swear.
Another started taking off her clothes,
what is this, some kind of sick joke?
To our relief she didn't strip bare,
saved our eyes from the nightmarish scare.
Then someone shouted to their crowd,
they downed their coffee and packed out loud.
I then realized we'll be on the same plane,
I pray that we're sitting on a different lane.

Yes! We were lucky,
and the rest were history.

Ok fine if I have to say,
Yunnan wasn't the biggest yay.
The green fields had turned into hay,
though cows and horses were kept at bay.
We saw many natural sights that were nice,
especially the cave and mountain of ice.
A lake that was so blue it looks fake,
but drink from it and you'll be dead.
Three yaks stood in it's icy waters,
their owners shouting, "A photo for 10 dollars!"
They weren't the first yak that I saw,
the first I've seen was 2 days before.

It was when we waited for our horse carriage,
I saw it trotting down a stage.
I couldn't wait to sit on its back,
and off i go with the owner's yak.
We'll then trot off into the sunset
and find our way to Tibet.
That was what i told my mom,
she said I can't go there from Yunnan.
She didn't know they were a state apart,
and I didn't bother to explain the geological part.

Over the days we saw plenty of stuff,
ranging from dinosaur fossils to yellowish grass.
Also we had three meals every single day,
plenty of oil and salt that filled our tray.
I must say it was quite sickening to have,
24 meals made by chinese chefs.
I was dying for a burger or a chicken chop,
where are the Macdonalds and western food shops!

Alas, my wish was granted on the very last day,
we were brought to the city, hip hip hooray.
But because I was sick the night before,
no macs or chicken, not at all.
Oh yes I have to say what happened to me,
their food got my stomach churning like bees.
Morning came and I felt much better,
went to the bookstore and shopped with my mother.
Evening came and we had hot pot,
they served pork and mushrooms of different lots.

Then it was time to leave the country,
all we had was a luggage and hand carry.
We didn't spend much during this trip,
just 2 rings, 2 books, a scarf and tips.
So that's the end of the Yunnan journey,
8 days just my mother and me.

just googled the place and wow i'm impressed with the grass fields, rivers and mountains lol.
it will be good if i get to ride a yak, sleep in a tent, swim and fish in their river, have an open fire on their field and star gaze.

i'll tell you guys if the people living there have nicer and fuller hair.

my bike got fixed by a really nice uncle who works opposite my house.
we decided not to cycle and head over to A Pinch Of Salt, which josh was raving about. really like the outdoor surf shack design.

ordered Jumbo Chick Leg(?), Grilled Salmon, Banana Split, Choc Larva and Earl Grey Tea.

the main dishes were really good and it's a nice place to chill at.
we'll be back really soon haha

gonna get art materials for the office tomorrow.
i was wishing that we meet up at 11 instead of 9 in the office.
oh well.
it's Flok's second Society Club Night tomorrow too.
our bosses are gonna be our human piñatas lol free candies and bashing.

can't wait for the weekend.

quite excited and happy when my boss gave me the company's board.
i have been eyeing it since the day of my job interview haha.

wrote a to-do/buy list as usual.
so many books that i wanna buy and things to decorate my room with.
because i have been looking at photos of interior design lately, i feel the urge to throw everything out and create everything from scratch.
but it still won't be as good because when i look out of my window, all i see are closed windows and a specific auntie staring at me and/or my brother.

must be me since my brother is reluctantly serving the nation.

working takes up a lot of time.
hopefully i have time in december to build my table and lamp.....
i just realized my mom visits the D.I.Y store frequently.
i went once with her and found cool things.
there is a spray that creates a rock surface.
last sunday i finally learnt how to change the ceiling light and spent the afternoon with my mom trying to drill screws into the cupboard.
very unsuccessful hahaha.
it would be good if we have a workshop to make furniture.
mother says that it's impossible to make furniture.
i don't get it and don't like it when people say no to things like that.
why do people say no to so many things?
it's always good to try even if you might fail.

i wanted to bring home a few old stair steps that was abandoned outside Raffles Place mrt station but didn't know how.
it's gone now.
could have tried making a coffee table out of it.

quite regret it.
they have been lying in a pile for weeks.... oh well.

it's nice to sit under the sun and enjoy a nice bowl of noodles in solitude.
but an uncle beside me kept complaining about how expensive things are.

it is terribly sad that i don't dream(or not that i can remember) when i'm forced to wake up at 830.
i did dream recently though, both on a weekend.
the first was about bangalas trying to steal my shoes and zombies invading.
the second was about a semi-frozen sea with mythical creatures and running away from people in a carnival-like place with my colleagues.

i need to indulge in more fantasy/children books and movies.

Junior Masterchef Australia brought tears to my eyes.
no bitching and backstabbing but genuine kids who want to win in the most childlike way (no fame and fortune).
the way they congratulate and comfort one another sincerely is really touching.

Le Mint on saturday.
had a teeth xray done by a really unprofessional nurse/assistant(?).
she was fiddling with the buttons when i saw the "Do Not Stare At The Laser Beam" sticker.
the scene of her pressing the wrong button causing the laser beam to burn my eyes while i scream in agony flashed across my mind.
they(dentist and nurse) didn't even ask me to close my eyes when they're about to leave the room.

"Er do i have to close my eyes?"
"Oh yes, yes!"

ate a few pills and had a syringe pierced into my gum.
i have to say, the dentist is creepy.
he kept saying, "Damn good."
who says "Damn good"?

after the anesthetic took effect, i was escorted to the surgical room.
the nurses asked me to lie down and i had a headphone playing nice christmas music. they turned on the dental light and wrapped a cloth over my eyes, which made me feel like i'm ice skating in heaven.
but then the dentist came and told me i would feel pressure in my mouth.
my whole ice skating experience became really twisted with the pressure, drilling sound and the dentist's "Damn good" comments.
i can imagine how scared a person is if she is really afraid of the dentist.

there's something about horror movies that integrate with our daily lives.

mcdonald breakfast and then slept away my Deepavali, which was quite wasted given that public holidays are very precious to working class people.

had dinner before drawing at Bugis' Starbucks.

everything is so chrismassy.
the colourful water fountain outside BHG, the ski resort interior design and Starbucks' red and white cups.
such a happy and sad feeling.
christmas marks the end of a year... in a sad way.
i remember i spent last year's christmas in Holland Village eating baked and fresh oysters.
that was good though.

time passes so fast.
with the rain and christmas season, i feel a huge chunk of my heart being torn away.
everything will change soon and i'm not the biggest fan of change.
i will probably leave Flok earlier than planned, which is sad because it's really nice working with them, then i've got to rush to finish up my work. and when i make the big decision, there will be a whole lot of things to settle.
i feel sadness and fear creeping up on me.

anyway, went Salvation Army with josh today.
he was really happy to get his hands on that "Lucky Tower Lamp".

and i managed to get two things that i've been obsessed with lately - shells and bird drawings.
there was also a storewide 20% discount so we were pretty happy.

actually, the real reason why we were out today was to eat crab.

salted egg yolk crab, hot plate tofu, man tous and chrysanthemum tea.
so good and all for only $52.

i want the 30 or 40 year old me to understand that i did not waste my life and that i am not like them. my 100% is not the same as their 100% because i am happy having fun.

a few months back, i went to Lasalle's grad show and was in awe with a group of ceramic animals.
today i met this girl at work and found out she is the artist.
i am shocked.
what a small world.
she is 22, has a BA(Hons) degree and does awesome works.

led primary school kids around Dragon Kiln and taught them how to make ceramic plates today.
the place is a really nice and quiet environment to make art.

it's funny to watch him scold the kids.

shopping for josh's clothes and drawing at Starbucks

had dinner at Far East's Hans.
the place is an.. old folks home.
josh said that it will be our life when we are old - eating food that are nicely separated and healthy (broccoli soup, watermelon, grilled salmon fillet and grilled turkey fillet).
unfortunately the food, like the place, sucks.
my turkey is tasteless and his salmon is overcooked.
we let a fly sucked the juice out of my watermelon slice.

that's us trying to look wrinkly and feeble, hunching over our old food.
that will be how we look like in the old folks home...

made lemon and olive oil pasta the other time but it was too sour.
decided to make some red wine based sauce today.
didn't really know what to cook at first because there was no cream sauce nor tomato paste.
in the end i used salsa because that's the closest to tomato.
it tasted not bad when fried with garlic and onion.
i think i added too much red wine... had to add sugar.
the cheese made everything taste better lol

two days back i was looking for my old ez-link card in my cupboard only to find it infested with ants.
they had laid eggs all over.

time to clear my room... and decorate it.

i've finally gotten a few jobs but even then what i'll earn is measly.
i feel like a single parent holding multiple jobs to pay the rent, food, studies etc.
was thinking about this the other day.
a lot of us want kids because babies are cute and all that but can you imagine when they grow up?
teenagers are the worst kind.
i don't know how teenage parents cope with their kids when they are kids themselves.

11.46pm and i'm in bed.
unusual sight.
i started thinking about happiness.
"Am i happy?" is something i ask myself frequently.
but what is happiness?
are you happy only when you are happy every second?
is that true happiness?
is it ok if you are feeling neutral for most of the time and sad/happy some of the time?
does that count? or does it mean that you are unhappy?
is it ok if i'm only 60% satisfied with life?

i feel that people are sad because they pursue moments of happiness.
ambition, alcohol, traveling, romance - to name a few.
when they have it, they'll feel happy only to feel empty afterwards.
such happiness are short-lived.

i get my dream job, woohoo, celebrate with my best friends and boyfriend, what a great night! next morning, got up early and had an awesome breakfast, still a great day, but what? missed 3 trains because it was too crowded. got in the 4th but was late, got scolded by boss, colleagues are kinda snobbish, no one wants to help me, oh no i don't think i have any friends at work, call my BFF to meet me for dinner, damn she can't make it, no one can make it, got on the crammed train home, ordered chicken rice and went home to discover that there's a lizard in my food.

happiness will never last if one rely on things and humans to make them feel happy.? i'm thinking being positive and appreciative is the way to go

went to Mandai today for a job interview.
the bus journey took an hour and i had a lot of time to think.
i've decided to put off listening to music using ear piece for awhile and i feel that my thoughts are clearer without music influencing my mood.

lately, i've been thinking about the definition of "normal".
i spent half of the trip thinking about it.
normal is what majority of us are but some people can't help but be "abnormal".
they are born to like and act differently from us.
it's sad because they didn't choose to be this way and that they have to pretend so as to blend in.
a pedophile can't help but like young kids.
a serial killer can't help but kill.
a rapist can't help but rape.
i don't approve of it because it's morally wrong but they can't help it.
it's like asking a hopeless romantic to stop loving.
or a filial person to stop being filial.
so those who are morally wrong has to give up what they desire to be normal and those who can't give up/control, end up in jail/dead/condemned.
then again, can they control?
it's like guys wanting to bang a certain chick but they have this instinct that tells them, "No, you can't rape her. If you want her, you got to pick her up."
so i suppose everyone can suppress their feelings, it's only if they will give in to temptation.
i guess normal means morally right?
if both parties are willing, it is normal.?
at least in their world because some "rules" are set based on majority.
sometimes we follow these rules because we compare ourselves to everyone who is doing it and we think it is right and we should do it the same way too.
... if all of these make sense.

i spent the later part of the journey thinking of the greenery in Singapore.
it was so nice to see all the forests (Bukit Timah, Woodlands .etc)
felt like i was going on a holiday.
it made me think of my school trip to Cameron Highland.
lix and i forgot to close the window at night and when we woke up, there were a few big insects in our room.
the greenery made me think of fresh air and i imagined myself living in a treehouse with birds chirping.
living with monkeys, gorillas, elephants, tigers.....
like Tarzan and Jane.
i wish i'm living in a treehouse now.

had my ears checked today.
was told that i have Tinnitus which caused the buzzing sound in my ears.
i was also told that i have high frequency hearing loss, which i know all along but was kind of reluctant to accept it.

the whole session was rather nerve-wrecking.
i know that i have Tinnitus and i know that i can't hear high frequency sound anymore, but i was afraid the doctor will tell me that i will become deaf soon.
we went through a series of tests.
he checked my ear drums, if i have nose cancer or throat problem.
he knows his stuff well which made me feel better, somehow.
i like that he illustrated the inner ear and coloured it with highlighters and colour pens.
while explaining, he would colour in or erase with correction fluid.

another thing that made me happy:
the people in the clinic use the word "disco".

"Do you go to disco?"

"Yes they like to disco."

anyway, he assured me that i will not become deaf but asked me to stop listening to loud music.
and if you're reading this, i suggest you do the same.

there's a bird living in one of my estate's trees and it's chirping non stop at unearthly hours, like 4.30 am.
i wanted to shoot it down.

brother entered the army today and i had to go through all the army crap. but i must say, guys look better in/after NS because it helps them man up.
oh well, we were all tired from the journey and slept till dinnertime.
watched this psycho movie with dad.
i also made grilled prawns with thyme and lemon zest.

peel off shell, legs and head. cut slits in the body(careful not to cut all the way through). rub in thyme and olive oil(i used Lurpak butter), season with salt and pepper on both sides. sprinkle lemon zest over prawns. grill at 280 degree for 8-10 minutes. squeeze lemon juice over prawns when serving.

it was quite hard(overcooked?) but the lemon made up for it.
went grocery shopping with mom last sunday and bought new ingredients.
not good because i always buy unhealthy food like cheese, ham and beef.
my mom likes plain food like porridge, oats and wheats.
letting her shop for our groceries means healthy, plain and boring food.

oh no i kinda miss my brother!
